London, UK and Paris to Cherbourg by train, car and ferry

Read more about Cherbourg.

Cherbourg is located at the northern tip of the Cotentin peninsula in Normandy. Once among the top transatlantic passenger ports, its glory has waned since the great ocean liners found other piers. But it is still a lively city famous for its umbrellas. Walk through the old streets lined with shops and restaurants and try to see the weekly Thursday market that takes place in and around the rue des Halles. The main tourist attraction is the Cité de la Mer, which has a special Titanic exhibit. The ship called here before her fatal maiden voyage on April 10, 1912.

The museum has done a great job rebuilding several different parts of the ship: the wireless room, the mail room, and a first-class cabin.
