The fire was caused by rain, the water leaked into the garage and fell on a charger, which caused sparks to come out and the fire quickly spread in box number 12 of the Motegi Circuit, in the area of the teams of MotoGP, between the Aprilia and Suzuki work zones, a garage that, however, is occupied by Marc VDS, the intermediate class squad.
When part of the material and the carpets used for the installation of the box burned, a large smoke spread through the part of the foot lane, which caused the immediate alarm.
The fire could be extinguished by the firefighters of the circuit without regretting any personal injury. Fortunately, the quick intervention of the staff at the Motegi facilities and the team allowed the motorcycles to be saved and removed from the fire area.
In November 2018 MotoGP already experienced a fire in one of its boxes, specifically Suzuki’s in Sepang, where one of its motorcycles burned at the pit lane door, fortunately also without personal injury.
Another brutal fire, this one without the World Cup being present, broke out in 2021 at the Termas Circuit, in Argentina, which led to far-reaching reforms on the Santiago del Estero route.
