On his way to 43 years old, Rossi’s career is inevitably approaching its end, even though he has not yet set an expiration date. The day that happens, the Italian will leave behind more than 25 seasons in the World Cup and a legacy that is difficult to match.
Beyond his innumerable sporting achievements, Il Dottore has managed to create a pyramidal structure to develop riders that starts from his academy in Tavullia and will culminate next season with the arrival of the VR46 team in MotoGP thanks to the Saudi sponsor Aramco .
The line-up has committed to being in the championship until 2026. Sooner or later, the point will come where Rossi hangs up his helmet and takes direct command of the team.
However, his brother, Luca Marini, does not believe that once the #46 decides to get off the bike he will spend much time on the circuits and be on the wall. Rather, he believes that he will delegate the management, as he has done so far in the rest of the categories, to his inseparable friend Uccio Salucci and Pablo Nieto .
“I don’t see him on the wall every race, maybe he wants to take a break when he retires. After more than 20 years in this paddock, maybe he’ll take a couple of years to come back here more sporadically. It’s hard to know what role he will assume in this new adventure, so we will have to listen to him when he has it clearer. I think he is now the team boss, but Uccio is the representative. In Moto2 he or Pablo is also there. I think they take care of the most bureaucratic things It would be nice to race together and have competitive bikes”, explains Marini.
Rossi narrowed the list of potential motorcycle suppliers to two at Le Mans: Yamaha and Ducati . That decision will largely depend on who Marini will share the box with next year.
“The team has told me a little about where they are, they have not gone into many details, but they have promised me that when we return from Le Mans we will talk about it. It is nice to talk about these things, Vale must be congratulated. We know the pilot what it is, what it has been and what it has done. But being able to create a team in MotoGP is something great, in my opinion.”
