Phillip Island.- The MotoGP World Championship lands in Australia for the first time since 2019, in the last edition before the pandemic, in which Marc Márquez came out as the winner and already as world champion.
Since then many things have happened, both in the championship and also for the Honda rider, who underwent four operations on his right humerus and is still trying to find his best version.
Two weeks ago, in Thailand, Márquez played the last of the three events that made up the treble that went from Aragón to Buriram and passing through Motegi. The rain that fell on Sunday allowed him to take a break after waking up completely crushed muscularly , as a result of the accumulated effort.
After the race –he finished fifth–, the man from Cervera (Lleida) got on a plane to Spain. He spent the trip, of about 15 hours, sleeping. As he acknowledged this Thursday, already from Phillip Island, it took him a week to recover from the wear in the shoulder area , which still reminds him that the road is long before being able to finish an entire race without discomfort.
“This is a circuit where you have to start well. If you start fighting with the bike, everything becomes very complicated. Here it is important to take another step in my recovery. After Thailand, I needed a week to recover my arm well. The priority is that, the arm”, agreed Márquez, who, apart from his physical limitations, does not know very well what to expect from a motorcycle that causes him doubts.
“This Honda causes me confusion. But, on paper, we should have a hard time here. At the same time, this is one of my favorite circuits. In addition, we have things to prove for the future,” revealed the Catalan, who is focusing on this final stretch of the course focused on two fronts. On the one hand, in forcing to fine-tune his right arm. On the other, testing components that Honda values incorporating next season.
“If I feel good with the bike, I will try to attack, because it is the way to improve. These races will be important, but the most important moment will be this winter, when I have to prepare everything for 2023,” the #93 clinched.
