Márquez: "I have perfect vision and I don't need any surgery"

The Honda rider was the protagonist of the press conference that the four HRC riders in the MotoGP World Championship offered this Friday to the media and in which Marc Márquez announced that he is fully recovered from his eye injury, but that before giving the next step wants to test itself on a large circuit.

“First of all, I am very happy. This last month I have been much better, the last three months were difficult,” Marquez introduced in his first public appearance since last October.

“But from the first moment I let myself be advised by the doctor who already cured me in 2011. It was the same nerve that was affected then. This week I improved a lot, and we carried out a check-up that confirmed my sensations,” he said.

“He gave me permission to ride a motorcycle, and I chose a motocross bike because it’s the kind of bike I got injured on. And also because it’s very demanding. The Repsol Honda Team is organizing the next step, which will be on a big circuit with a CBR or with the RC213V-S”, revealed Marc.

The Catalan’s injury came with two races remaining to finish 2021 and just before the decisive pre-season test in Jerez last November, which he was unable to attend, adding to a year and a half of injury that dragged on his right arm, from the Jerez fall in June 2020.

“It has been one of the most difficult moments of my career on a mental level. I would come out of one recovery and get into another. I don’t wish anyone to go through this. Since I got injured, my goal has always been to be in the first test and the first race. But you have to go step by step because the vision is a very serious matter”, he pointed out.

“Recovery from such an injury, from vision, is particular. Either you have vision, or you don’t. I’m the first that when I get injured, I want to run the next day. But nobody, not even the doctors themselves, knew if I was going to be out two months, three or six. Everything was on the table. A possible surgery or never riding again. But when I started to feel better I did some road biking, then mountain biking. Before confirming that I will be in the tests from Malaysia, I want to prove myself well to know that I will be fully prepared,” said the Honda rider .

Marc admitted that the vision is fine but he wants to confirm it.

“If I am riding a motorcycle it is because I have perfect vision and I don’t need any surgery. But I want to see how I feel on a big circuit, at speed, and alone, before allowing myself to go to Sepang “, where the first tests of preseason (February 5 and 6).

In addition to the eye injury, Marc is still recovering from his right arm and shoulder.

“On the shoulder, I want to go little by little, because the sensations are good, but I don’t want the same thing to happen to me as last year, and to suffer as I compete.”

The runner also explained how the episode of his fall was at the end of October, practicing motocross.

“It was during the last two laps that I fell and catapulted out, hitting my head. When I got home I took a shower and started to feel weird, with poor vision. I immediately called the doctor. The risk when you train is always there , but from the sofa you will not be the best in the world”, he revealed.

“At the beginning of the injury it is very difficult because I couldn’t lead a normal life,” settled the man from Cervera.
