Márquez: "I'm optimistic but I don't want to talk about deadlines to reappear"

The eight-time world champion underwent surgery on June 2, for the fourth time, to try to definitively solve the injury he suffered in his right arm during the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix .

Ten weeks after the operation, which was carried out in the United States, Marc Márquez continues to progress in his rehabilitation and this Tuesday, the Repsol Honda team released a video and statements by the rider, in which he speaks in very positive terms.

After starting the exercises with a load on his arm, Marc has been putting intensity into his work to strengthen his right arm, starting to run, swim and improve resistance in the gym with elastic exercises. “Each week weight and resistance are slowly added to increase strength without demanding too much from the body,” they explain from Honda.

For his part, the runner explained that the bone has been welded effectively.

“Step by step I am feeling better and the bone is healing correctly, which is the best news of all,” says Marc from Madrid, where he lives.

“We’re still in rehab mode, I’m working really hard on the cardio side to try and get ready. At the end of August I have another checkup and from there we can go one step further with the rehab and really start to tighten and build muscle.” , adds the runner.

The boy from Cervera admits that he has suffered some ups and downs during the process, but he faces the final stretch with motivation.

“Some days are better than others, but this is all part of the journey. I’m optimistic, but I don’t want to talk too much about timelines until we have this review, this is not the time to force. I’ve waited a long time to get this kind of feeling.” “, he warns.

“It’s been a fight, it’s not two days or two months that I’ve been fighting, it’s two years,” he recalls in reference to the accident in Jerez, in July 2020.

“Last year I won some races like that, but I had to fight a lot. In Jerez I realized that something had to change. It was tough and it’s tough now mentally, not because he’s not racing, but because you always have this doubt about the arm. . I can’t have surgery again. I’m convinced this one will be good, but these thoughts are always there in the back of your mind.”

Since the Italian Grand Prix, at the end of May, which was his last race, Stefan Bradl replaced him in the team, but after his departure, Honda’s collapse in the World Championship was catastrophic.

“Honda is at a critical moment. I am talking a lot with my team and trying to understand the 2022 bike, the situation and what is going on. That is why I will go to Austria, to talk to everyone and meet with the HRC staff from Japan. to work in the future,” he explained.

“My intention and my hope is to see Honda at the top again, not as I have seen it in recent races, but to see the bikes at the top, for that we need teamwork, so that information is not lost along the way. Let Japan work with Europe, let Europe work on the circuits and the drivers, logically, give their one hundred percent,” he sent a clear message in Catalan.

“We are all pushing together; we win together, we lose together and we will come back together. I am also talking a lot with Stefan Bradl; us and Santi (Herández, his track engineer) are working together and testing things, they both know how to drive. At Mugello I said that I would be at home, but I want to stay connected. With the previous operation I disconnected too much and I want to be involved, so that when I return I have everything fresh”, sentences the one from Cervera.
