Alcañiz.- The Honda rider will start fourth this Sunday at Motorland, opening the second row of the grid in a setting where he has won in six of his last seven visits. Until the injury that left him out of the races for nine months, this track was one of those where he grew strong, something similar to what happens at the Sachsenring, where this year he won again after the hardest period of loss in his trajectory.
The physical limitations that the Spaniard still carries have caused him to lose some of that explosiveness that has always characterized him, waiting for him to recover it at the same time as his right arm does. Until that happens, Márquez focuses his strategy on not losing contact with the group of riders who will theoretically ride in front, and then risk the podium and who knows if the victory, in the final stretch of the race.
“I don’t have the ability to do all the laps to the maximum, this circuit is not like the Sachsenring. But I do have enough level to go with the group in front”, summed up the runner from Cervera (Lleida).
One of the defining elements of the #93 was always that almost cat-like ability that allowed him to avoid falls when he was practically on the ground. The echoes of his injury to his right arm prevent him from taking advantage of that ability, a circumstance that is perfectly reflected in the accident statistics: with 18. Márquez is the member of the grid that accumulates the most so far this season, despite having missed the first two stops on the calendar.
“This is an extreme situation that I had never experienced and that I would not wish on anyone. It is true that they have reached many falls, although half of them would have been saved two years ago. But the ones saved right now don’t exist in my dictionary. This morning I had a fall that I would have saved perfectly before”, commented the Catalan, who, yes, does not in any case consider changing his style to avoid rolling on the ground.
“The easy thing would be to cut, go slower, but it’s not my style. If I can’t fall, I don’t go out on the track. Let’s say that I already have it normalized ”, he settled.
