The Spaniard, who two weeks ago already passed through the paddock of the Red Bull Ring , attended the journalists this Saturday in Misano, shortly after receiving the approval of the medical services of the MotoGP World Championship, to get back on his Honda on Tuesday, in the first of the last two days of collective rehearsals of this 2022.
Marc Márquez, who does not know if he will shoot on Wednesday –”it will depend on how I get up”, he said-, is satisfied with the recovery process that he has carried out, since on June 2 he underwent the fourth operation in his right humerus. Three months after the intervention at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester , in Minnesota, Márquez confirmed that his sensations are infinitely better than those transmitted to him by the arm after the third surgery, which resulted in a 34% rotation of the bone that fits with the shoulder. That physical limitation no longer exists, even though the muscles in the area will still need a lot of stretching to allow him to drive normally. The kilometers that he accumulates from now on will also be decisive, both for his physical condition and for Honda, which had been making it clear that it needed him to lead the way in the projection of its 2023 prototype.
“The objective of the test is to prove myself. If I’m fine, then it will be for Honda,” agreed Márquez, who rode two days this week at Motorland, with a sports car, before deciding to fly to San Marino this Friday.
Regarding his real state, the multi-world champion insisted that these tests showed him that he is not in a position to drive as he would like or as he did before the injury. At the same time, in Aragón he was able to verify that, most likely, he can get it with work.
“Now I still can’t drive like before. Before [the operation] I wanted to position my arm in a certain way but I couldn’t, because I had a limitation. Now I can get to that position,” described the Catalan, with a relaxed gesture. “The rehabilitation is going well, but the muscles need time. And, more than that, you have to take into account that I had been living with a 34% rotation in my arm for a year and a half. The doctor tells me that, surely, the last step, I will give it this winter”, related the #93.
“I’m coming back because the doctors tell me it’s 100% safe. I’m going to see how I feel when shooting, because I’ll force myself and I’ll realize how my body reacts. The possibility that I have to stop at some point is also on the table,” continued the boy from Cervera (Lleida).
Regarding his reappearance date, the Honda rider put everything on the sensations transmitted by his arm, although he made two things clear. In the first place, if he considers it viable to return to Aragón, in two weeks, he will do so. And that when he does, his idea is to keep running until the end of the course.
“What interests me most now is accumulating kilometers. My goal is to return to being competitive, which I was until my physical condition limited me. When I return it will be to compete in all the races. I pushed for this test because it is very important, more so for me than for Honda. If I can race in Aragón, I will. But if I don’t see myself in good condition, then no,” Márquez clinched.
