Márquez: "The time has come to suffer and return, step by step, to the life of an athlete"

This Thursday, the Spaniard underwent a medical visit scheduled for six weeks after the operation he underwent in the United States, the fourth on the right humerus , and got the best possible news: the bone consolidates optimally, so that you can now go a little further in your recovery process.

In addition to forgetting about the sling , which has kept his arm practically immobilized for the last month and a half, Márquez received the go-ahead to begin cardio training , and to introduce physiotherapy in the affected area, with the intention of regaining mobility.

Although the Catalan has not set a date for his return to the World Championship, his intention and that of Honda is to do so before the end of the course, in order to actively contribute to the configuration of the 2023 prototype.

The next review will take place in another six weeks, that is to say at the end of August, at which point, depending on his progress, you can start to get a little idea of when he will be fit to race again.

“I still have a long way to go. I find it difficult to move my arm, eat with it. The doctors have sent me a weekly plan that I must follow. The most important thing is to regain mobility and, little by little, introduce routines such as swimming and the gym. Now is the time to suffer and return, step by step, to the life of an athlete”, declared Márquez this Friday, in a live broadcast organized by Repsol, the main sponsor of HRC .

“In a couple of hours I will undergo the first physiotherapy session. I have hardly trained, and now we have to start working on the muscles,” added the multi-champion.

After the surgery that Dr. Joaquín Sánchez-Sotelo performed at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, #93 has dedicated himself to resting so as not to jeopardize what is his last chance in his quest to recover his best version. Once this first phase has been overcome, it is time to increase the workload, but with a safety margin that does not jeopardize the path traveled.

“These days I could already begin to move my arm in the water, but gently. If I stress it more than necessary, that can easily lead me to take two steps back,” concluded Marc Márquez.
