Martín: "I entered a kilometer per hour faster"

Sepang.- Jorge Martín once again made a very strong start, but as usual, unfortunately, he failed to maintain consistency throughout the entire race and, this time, a crash ended a real display in the opening laps of the Grand Prix of Malaysian MotoGP.

The Spaniard from Pramac had signed a stratospheric record pole on Saturday, and from the first position on the grid, he was the only rider to hold off Pecco Bagnaia’s brilliant start.

Leading the race ahead of the Ducati leader, Martín did not look at the world championship classification or speculate, he pushed hard to try to escape, which he already said on Saturday was his goal, and with them gain enough of an advantage over Pecco that prevent Ducati from forcing him to let him pass, if necessary.

However, after leading the first six laps and enjoying an advantage over second, on the seventh lap the man from Madrid crashed.

“A pity, because I came in (only) a kilometer faster than the previous lap. It’s a shame because I was the fastest this weekend, but I have to improve. I can fight with the drivers in front, I’m one of them.” , the Spaniard tried to console himself.

“Maybe I was a little too confident going into that corner. But I feel good and fast.”

Martín made a good start and pushed hard in the first laps, it didn’t seem like he was holding back or managing anything.

“I was driving the tyres, I was calm. When I saw that I was 1.2 behind Pecco I thought it was time to attack. I changed the map and then I crashed. I’m satisfied because I tried, if I hadn’t tried I wouldn’t have stayed calm”, was his argument.

Martín is proving to be a very strong rider in the first parts of the race, but he hasn’t finished closing them.

“I’m happy with how the bike is going, and I hope that, deciding only the engine and not touching anything else, I can start next season as it should”.
