Martín: "I expected to be better after the operation"

The Pramac-Ducati rider has not exactly had a placid first half of the season. The course started with a Desmosedici GP22 that was far from the performance of last year’s bike, and with hundreds of parts to test, a task that basically fell to the Pramac garage, when Pecco Bagnaia and the team garage decided official go another way in development, with a hybrid engine from 2021.

This accumulation of work and continuous changes on the bike led Martin to suffer several crashes and lose his way a bit. The last swerve was to change the standard front fork for the one Bagnaia had, thinking there was a gain, which ended up misleading the man from Madrid.

After admitting the error, Martín returned in Mugello to a base configuration similar to the one at the beginning of the course and to the Swedish suspensions, which quickly translated into an improvement in performance. However, a problem with the nerves in his right hand forced the Spaniard to undergo surgery for carpal tunnel surgery, which caused numbness in his limb, preventing him from driving normally.

Despite this, at Mugello and, above all, Barcelona, where he returned to the podium, Martín proved to be on the right path again.

The bad news this Thursday in the run-up to the German Grand Prix is that the recovery is not being as fast as expected.

“I’m fine, but I expected to be better,” Martinator said when asked about the status of his operated hand.

“I have all the mobility in my hand, but I notice the pain, especially in the support of the handlebars, I am sure that I will suffer when braking,” he said.

Despite everything, he is declared fit and will go out on the track this Friday in FP1.

“I hope it’s not a big problem to drive this weekend, fortunately in this circuit almost all the corners are left-handed, which will be important since, otherwise, I would have had to suffer a lot”.

Martín , who missed the test on Monday after Barcelona due to the intervention, said he was “eager to get out on the track”, and explained the plan he had drawn up.

“I have not taken any type of anti-inflammatory or painkiller all week, so that when I take it this weekend to get on the bike, it will take effect. That is the idea,” he assured.

The Ducati rider is confident that, finally, he can drive at his best level.

“We’ll see how the weekend unfolds, I’m sure the doctors will help me and I’m sure everything will be fine,” settled the man from San Sebastián de los Reyes.
