Martín: "I risked in every corner of every lap for this pole"

Cheste.- The last pole position of the season fell into the hands of Jorge Martín, the young Spanish rider for Pramac Ducati , who cut the vertiginous streak of five in a row by his teammate, Pecco Bagnaia.

Martín, despite his impressive results, which include, in addition to pole positions, one victory and three podiums, continues to fight, however, for the title of best rookie of the year, a classification that the Italian Enea Bastianini leads with one race remaining with 94 points, three more than the Madrid runner, who has been affected by injuries in this regard.

A battle that the Ducati man considers “important”, and that he hopes to win starting this Sunday from pole, while Enea does so from 18th place.

“It was a great lap,” he said of the pole time (1:29.936). “Since FP3 I felt very confident, I was close to the front at all times. In FP4 we tried the hard tire and it was a strange feeling, but in QP we got the feeling back, even though we didn’t find perfect grip, so I took risks in all the corners and in all the laps. The bike is going well, the performance is good and we have the pace to fight for the podium”, valued the man from Madrid.

Regarding who he sees as the most dangerous rivals for the race, Martín pointed out the riders to his right (Bagnaia) and left (Jack Miller) at the press conference.

“These two riders that I have by my side are the strongest, Joan Mir and Alex Rins will also be close and it will be difficult, but we are ready for the fight,” he assured, before focusing on the fight for the title of best rookie.

“We have to finish the race ahead of Enea, it’s important to get the rookie of the year and if we manage to finish the race I think we can do it,” he said.

Although the Ducati has never worked very well in Valencia, for Martín, who is riding this circuit for the first time on an Italian bike, things are quite different.

“When I arrived at this circuit I thought it was good for the Ducati, because Jack has been competitive here for the last few years, I don’t see any big weak points, maybe when releasing the brakes the bike will turn, but I see it stable and competitive in all points” , settled the boy from San Sebastian de los Reyes.
