Martín, operated to remove the plates of the right hand and ankle

Jorge Martín became the best rookie of the MotoGP season in 2021, achieving a victory, at the Styrian Grand Prix , in addition to a second place, two third places and four pole positions.

Despite these impressive numbers for a rookie, the Spaniard’s season was not easy at all, especially as a result of a tremendous crash suffered at the Portuguese Grand Prix in mid-April, which conditioned him physically for the rest of the year and forced him to miss out on up to four grand prizes.

As a result of the fall in Portimao , Martín had to go through the operating room to undergo a triple operation, with three surgeons working simultaneously, on the left knee, and on the right hand and foot, specifically on the tibial malleolus, applying in these last two interventions a support plate of the fractured bone.

The osteosynthesis material applied to the Ducati rider’s hand and ankle in April has caused him discomfort ever since and this Thursday morning the rider underwent surgery at the Dexeus University Institute in Barcelona to remove it.

“Everything has gone well, the hand is working and the ankle too, now to rest a little and back to action,” assured the pilot himself on his social networks from the hospital room.

After the operation, the rider from Madrid will have to rest for a few days before gradually resuming activity, so it is expected that he will arrive at the pre-season tests in Sepang , on February 5 and 6, in full physical condition to face his second season in MotoGP.

For Martín, who has a contract with Ducati until the end of 2023, the start of the 2022 season is key, since the results of the first races will determine the direction that the house of Borgo Panigale will take in choosing its riders for the official team. as of 2023.
