The young rookie rider of the Pramac-Ducati team, suffered a chilling crash at turn 7 of the Portimao Circuit with just over six minutes to go in FP3 of the Portuguese Grand Prix .
The driver was taken off the track on a stretcher after a few long minutes immobile on the gravel, causing the session to be stopped with a red flag. Subsequently, Jorge Martín was evacuated by helicopter to the Faro Hospital, where further tests were carried out and he remained under observation for 24 hours.
Martín , logically declared unfit to run this Sunday’s race, suffers three fractures, two of which require him to undergo surgery.
Specifically, the injuries detected in the reviews carried out by the medical staff of the Faro Hospital are a fracture of the first metacarpal of the first finger of the right hand and the medial malleolus of the right ankle , both surgical, in addition to a small fracture in the fifth metacarpal of the left hand.
“Jorge is now well and calm, he is still under observation in Faro, this afternoon (Sunday) he will fly to Barcelona, where they will do a new more exhaustive control and tomorrow, in principle, he will go through the operating room. His right hand and foot are injured, but they want to do more tests to rule out any other injury,” the rider’s agent, Albert Valera , explained to Motorsport.com .
Martín will travel to Barcelona by plane and will be admitted to the Quirón Clinic, where Dr. Xavier Mir , a member of the MotoGP medical staff, and his team will take charge of the pilot’s medical examinations and operation.
At the moment, no type of assessment has been made on the time that Martín will have to remain out as a result of injuries.
