Matt Damon returns to action cinema with "Stillwater"

It is not that Matt Damon is an actor in which action has an absolute role in his filmography. Saving the Bourne saga and some isolated film, Damon prefers or seems to move more comfortably in the thriller, the drama or even the comedy. Stillwater is his return to this genre, although judging by the knowledge we have of its director, Tom McCarthy will not be far from a frenetic film to use. It is also the return, but to the direction of McCarthy who has not been at the controls of a production since the Oscar-winning Spotlight, for which he won a statuette for the best original screenplay. The creator of the original story of Up has been highlighted and recognized as a screenwriter and in turn a director who chooses his projects with care. The only one but that could be put to his short career is With the magic in shoes starring Adam Sandler. Win Win, Satation Agent and The Visitor are films of level that added to Spotlight show that he is a director to be reckoned with and the new Stillwater trailer has only made us want to see more of this association between Damon and McCarthy. The Focus Features film tells the story of Bill Baker (Matt Damon) a somewhat rough worker on an oil rig who travels to France to see his daughter who is in prison, facing a murder that he has not committed. Bill Baker will have to face the judicial and cultural barriers that an American can suffer in the Gallic country. Baker will settle in Marseille, where he will not stop until they manage to exonerate his daughter. The cast is completed by Abigail Breslin as daughter, Camille Cottin, Deanna Dunagan and Robert Peters. It will be released on July 30 in the United States, although it does not yet have a release date in Spain, Stillwater is expected to reach our borders throughout the summer. We are not used to seeing Damon in such a tough role, but if something defines the talent of the indomitable Will Hunting, it is the versatility with which he faces all the projects he sets out on.
