Lando Norris arrived at the McLaren team as the next British jewel and, although in his first two courses with the Woking team he lost the duel with his teammate Carlos Sainz, he has already proven to be a driver to be reckoned with for the future.
At just 22 years old, he is one of the consolidated members of the grid, having scored 6 podiums and coming close to victory at the 2021 Russian Grand Prix, and has a contract with the papaya team until the end of the 2025 season. that he has a guaranteed stay in Formula 1, something very complicated at present due to the need to perform from the beginning.
In the current year at the Grand Circus, the McLaren car is not the third fastest, so being in the top six is already quite an achievement, as happened in the last race in Monaco, where Norris scored eight points.
That is why it is possible to wonder if the young Briton gets the most out of the car, as happens with the great champions of the style of Lewis Hamilton, with whom it is impossible not to draw parallels, debutants in the English team and with promising futures.
This is what was put on the table for the head of McLaren, Andreas Seidl , who assured that it was not yet time to compare him with the seven-time champion, nor with the other most successful driver in history, Michael Schumacher.
“It’s still too early to compare Lando [Norris] to the Lewises or the Michaels, but there’s a reason we’re so glad we tied him up for the long haul,” he said. “He has shown that he is with us in Formula 1, with the progress he has made in recent years and the performance he has, it is something special.
“If I go back to see this weekend and how he’s been doing since the first race, it’s impressive, and at the same time, it’s something very important for us as a team,” said the German after the Monegasque event.
“The battle we find ourselves in is a very tight one for that fourth position, we are facing very strong competition, with tough cars and drivers, so we are happy to have Lando on board,” continued Seidl.
The British driver is seventh in the championship, behind Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes, with 48 points, although the difference with respect to his teammate, Daniel Ricciardo, is abysmal, since the Australian has only harvested 11 units.
“Knowing the potential that Lando has, seeing what he has shown so far in his Formula 1 career, it is only up to us to give him a better car in the years to come so that we can achieve the lofty goals we have together.”
