Mental health is one of the most important issues today thanks to the visibility it has been given by great personalities. A while ago it was not given the recognition it deserved, but, fortunately, everything has changed.
In Formula 1, the McLaren team has been one of the most concerned, and for a few seasons it has joined Mind to continue advancing in terms of mental health.
This charity has launched a challenge together with those of Woking with the aim of raising 59,000 pounds sterling (almost 70,000 euros at current exchange rates) before the British Grand Prix.
Under the name of One Lap for Mind (‘ A Tour of the Mind ‘), the participants will be able to walk, run or ride a bicycle through the nearly six kilometers of the Silverstone circuit between June 27 and July 3, in once or dividing the sections by parts.
Those who attend on Thursday, June 30, will have the opportunity to share the track with McLaren’s regular drivers, Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, as well as the boss of the British team, Andreas Seidl , the company’s general manager, Zak Brown , and Mind CEO Paul Farmer.
“During the week of the British Grand Prix, we challenge you to walk, run or cycle the 5.9 kilometres! That’s the equivalent of one lap around the Silverstone circuit – all with the help of our friends at Mind !” the team announced on its Twitter account.
Those who donate more than 59 pounds sterling (almost 70 euros) will enter the draw to meet Norris and Ricciardo, in addition to being able to turn the track with them.
“I am proud to participate in the One Lap for Mind fundraising challenge,” said Zak Brown. “It’s a perfect way to honor our third anniversary with the Mind organization, while also engaging our people and fans in a fun activity to raise funds for their work.”
“We have decided to continue supporting Mind in 2022 as part of our goal to have a positive impact on our people and the communities where we run, it is important that we continue to highlight the mental health emergency generated by the pandemic, we support services that Mind offers and the positive impact they have on people’s lives,” continued the McLaren Racing CEO.
“I would also like to thank our friends from Formula 1 and Silverstone for helping us organize this on-track charity event during the British Grand Prix,” said Brown.
Through the One Lap for Mind JustGiving page it is possible to register to participate in this unique initiative launched by the Woking team.
