Since the start of the hybrid era, the Brackley-based outfit have claimed eight consecutive constructors’ world titles, that is every one of them, but the dynamic in the 2022 season has changed. With the introduction of new technical regulations, the single-seaters have been radically modified, all with the aim of making Formula 1 more fun, with many overtaking and battles on the track.
However, in the German garage they do not enjoy it, and that is that their W13 suffers from some inherent problems with porpoising that do not seem to have an easy solution in the short term. At the Spanish Grand Prix they seemed to remedy this setback with a major update package, but Monaco and Baku brought the Silver Arrows back to reality, waiting for Silverstone to face a revolution in their car.
Although to get to Great Britain, it is necessary to go through Canada, where the next race of the highest category will be held. There, the Germans want to repeat George Russell’s podium in Azerbaijan, but they are aware of why he got that position on the honor roll, as the team’s boss, Toto Wolff , assures.
“Baku has been a difficult weekend for us, mainly due to rebound problems, but we have made the most of the opportunities that have come our way and we have come out with some good points,” said the Austrian.
“We have benefited from the bad luck of others, but reliability is an important factor in Formula 1, and there was no lack of hard work at Brackley and Brixworth to get both cars to the finish,” insisted the head of the Formula 1 silver arrows.
“Once again we have been far from the middle zone in terms of pace, but a bit behind the top two teams,” Wolff explained. “We are working hard to close that gap, but with a very small package. I loved seeing the effort in the team to get ahead together and get the best possible result with the tools we had, that spirit will make us compete again in the front of”.

Before the ninth round of the 2022 season, Mercedes is in third place in the constructors’ championship with 161 points, 38 behind Ferrari, who were approached due to their double retirement, and 118 behind Red Bull.
“Having not been to Montreal since 2019, we are all excited to be back. It is a wonderful city and Canadian fans are very passionate about Formula 1,” added the Austrian. “The track is a unique challenge, with chicanes separated by long straights, so we’re looking forward to seeing what the weekend brings, and hopefully we can make a step forward.”
