They are both Australians, very fast and, at different times, have made it to the official Ducati team. Casey Stoner became the first, and until now only, MotoGP World Champion for the Borgo Panigale brand, which is now looking with another Aussie, Jack Miller , to once again dominate the top category.
Miller, after an irregular start to the season, won at Jerez and repeated at Le Mans and, as a reward, Ducati announced the renewal of his contract for 2022.
“The decision was made, but after his two extraordinary victories, officially announcing it, we believe, was a good prize for Jack,” Davide Tardozzi , sports director of the red bikes, assured this Friday from Mugello.
“Nobody could not be happy in my current position, it has been a surreal few weeks, I am very happy to have renewed the contract and to be able to rest easy for the next eight months, thinking only of racing a motorcycle,” Miller explained on Thursday.
“I love Mugello , but my record here is not good, I have my own demons on this track, I haven’t been able to finish some races here, so I’m going to try to finish this Sunday”, warned the Australian.
Ducati has won the last three races held at Mugello: Andrea Dovizioso (2017), Jorge Lorenzo (2018) and Danilo Petrucci (2019). Before, only Stoner had achieved it, in 2009, being the last Australian to climb to the top of the podium.
“When Stoner started to win was when I started to watch the races, and in 2007 to compete. I was able to see Stoner, I missed the Mick Doohan era but I followed Casey closely, but I don’t want to think about his records, I prefer to focus on this weekend.
Despite what one might think otherwise, the relationship between Miller and Stoner is not close.
“I haven’t talked to Casey, I try to return the calls I can but I’m not very good at it, I hope people forgive me,” acknowledged the runner who now calls himself ‘Thriller’ .

Despite the fact that now everything is happy around Miller, the runner based in Andorra does not forget the precariousness that has always accompanied him, despite the fact that his representative, Aki Ajo , is one of the most influential and respected people in the paddock.
“I’ve always had one-year contracts, apart from last year, which I signed before the season started, to do it so soon this time is very good. In the middle of next season I will be looking for a job again, but it is part of the game, I don’t like having to do it every year, but it seems that it is my turn, ”says Jackass .
