Mir: "A vibration on the bike has ruined our options"

In a circuit where it is very difficult to overtake, and more so for the Suzukis, Joan Mir will be forced to start last on the fourth row of the grid, with no less than eleven riders ahead, a situation that the Mallorcan described as “frustrating ”, especially due to the fact that both on Friday and especially on Saturday morning, he had been strong in a dry turn.

Mir lapped in 1.20.098 in FP3, the seventh fastest time, thus going straight into Q2. But in the official timing he could only do a time of 1.20.732, six tenths slower.

The Suzuki rider attended the media with dismay at the end of the day.

“A vibration on the bike, which can be seen in the data, has ruined my options to fight for the second or third row of the grid,” explained the 2020 world champion, visibly upset.

“I think that, although it was very hot on the track, if I had been able to lap one or two tenths of the time I did in FP3 (1.20.098) that would have put us ahead”, specifically fourth having done the same time.

“It’s a shame because we’re giving everything to be there and we’re really getting there, but in qualifying it’s been frustrating,” he reiterated.

Despite the fact that the result was not even close to what was expected, Mir does consider that in terms of sensations he is progressing in recent races.

“I am in the best moment of the year in terms of sensations and I am optimistic for this reason, in Mugello I started far behind and could not do anything, it was a very long race. In Barcelona we worked a lot and the situation improved, especially in terms of rhythm. Here we have taken another step and also over one lap, in FP3, and a little bit on Friday, we have been faster. So we are improving, but the classification must be good, ”he lamented.

The rider from Palma is desperately looking for a good result this season, first to justify the supposed interest of Honda and, also, to lift Suzuki’s spirits, which have been down since the announcement of his departure at the end of the year.

“It is important to have good results, but not more than if nothing happened in the team, it is always important to be on the podium, I do not give extra importance to having good results because of what is happening”, in reference to the situation of the Hamamatsu structure.
