The Suzuki couple was looking forward to the Misano test to start preparing for next season. After Mir saw the possibility of retaining the title slip away on Sunday, his sights are already set on 2022.
His teammate Álex Rins is in the same situation, who is looking forward to finishing a 2021 season in which nothing has come of it and who takes this test as the start of rehearsals for the next campaign.
After winning the drivers’ title last year, Suzuki has not made as much progress as its rivals over the winter and has been overtaken by several manufacturers. In order to recover ground, Suzuki has already brought the 2022 bike to test it in these two days of testing. After not being able to shoot in the morning due to the rain that fell at night, Mir and Rins launched it to premiere it in the early afternoon.
“It was a shame not to ride in the morning. In the afternoon we completed the entire program for the day. Testing the new 2022 engine was on the program. I am quite happy. It works a little better, I have noticed that it has a lot more power. We need to adapt small things, which are normal for new engines, and continue working for next year. I don’t see any negative point”, commented Rins .
The #36 agrees with the Barcelonan’s analysis, affirming that the new engine maintains the character of Suzuki and that it is an evolution for the better of the current version.
“It keeps the character of Suzuki. I think it’s going in the right direction. A little more powerful, I think that will help us. It’s not a revolution, I think it’s an evolution,” he said.
This Wednesday, the two Spaniards will continue testing more elements of the 2022 bike.
“Tomorrow will be a tough day. We have several things to test. One will be the chassis and then work on the details. We have different electronic ideas,” Mir commented, while Rins will focus on the rear holeshot : “The plan for tomorrow is focus on the rear height adjuster, with it, without it, to see the strengths and weaknesses, and some more setup “, he clinched.
