Jerez.- The 2020 world champion achieved a series of consecutive fastest laps to stop the clock in 1.38.194 and lead a practice session for the first time this season, while his teammate, with a final lap, already with With time running out, he placed second on the timesheet just 25 thousandths away, completing a Suzuki one-two at the head of FP1 at the Spanish Grand Prix. Great role for the blue bikes at the start of the weekend, just after Rins achieved, with his second podium finish in Portimao, becoming co-leader of the World Championship.
Alex Márquez, who for a moment led the session, finished third as the first Honda, with Aleix Espargaró maintaining his solidity and consistency with the fourth fastest time. Fabio Quartararo, who suffered a crash in the early stages of the session and then had several attempts to crash, finally achieved the fifth fastest time, to beat Takaaki Nakagami who was the second best Honda. Brad Binder was seventh ahead of Pol Espargaró, who like most drivers kept the medium front and rear compounds for most of the session. Maverick Viñales was ninth and Jack Miller closed, at the last minute, the top tep and the provisional classification for Q2, from which Marc Márquez, Enea Bastianini, Pecco Bagnaia, Miguel Oliveira or the poleman from Portimao, Johann Zarco, were left out.
