For Suzuki, the Achilles heel is still the dry lap time, the key to being able to aspire to get a good position on the starting grid, the only option, today in MotoGP , to opt for victory and, surely, the podiums. Waiting for this Saturday’s classification, Joan Mir ended up very happy with the pace he managed to get out of his bike this Friday at the Sachsenring , but he lamented the clear superiority that Italian bikes have over one lap on soft rubber, and not only Ducati, also Aprilia, which sent him down to 10th on the time sheet.
“We have improved a lot, when you start riding the bike where you want it is when you enjoy it the most, well also when you fight for the podiums, but in terms of riding, first when you feel good on the bike and do what you want is when you better. you pass it, and in that sense we have improved a lot”, said Mir in reference to this Friday compared to the last grand prix.
The problem, however, is the Ducati jam ahead, and more so on a circuit where overtaking is so complicated.
“It is outrageous that there are six or seven Ducati in the top ten, that is something that, obviously, does not benefit us, it is clear that we have improved, but they are doing very well, especially with soft tires. We will do our best, I hope that of all those Ducati some will fail and see if we can have a chance to go to Q2 and defend the second or third row, then we’ll see if we can come back.”
Mir had been complaining for several races about a problem with the front end, which seems to have been solved.
“The bike brakes better, it seems that it returns to have a little the sensations that I had in the past and that is what has made me enjoy, more than the time or the position. I hope tomorrow to see where we really are with more heat. Well, since Friday it’s something very positive”.
The Suzuki rider had no qualms about admitting that it had been a hopeful start to the weekend.
“I don’t know if it’s the best Friday of the season, but in terms of sensations, it’s sure to be the best of the year for me that I can remember,” settled the Spaniard.
