Mir: "Knowing how to separate things is also part of our job"

Le Mans.- The French event has never been very good for Joan Mir since he competed in MotoGP. In fact, last year’s eleventh position is his best result on the Bugati circuit, where he has accumulated a significant string of crashes.

The last one, this same Friday, shortly after starting the second free practice session, led him to wallow in the gravel after losing the front end in the third curve of the track, in an area where he rolls at more than 150 kilometers per hour.

Despite the accident, the 2020 world champion claims to have started better than in recent editions, a circumstance that makes him somewhat optimistic with a view to Saturday and Sunday.

“I feel better than in previous years here. When I put on the medium tire in the second test and I fell, that conditioned the training a bit. My body hurts, although I’m fine. I don’t think it will be a problem this Saturday”, Mir summed up, before recounting how the blow was that will surely make him go to sleep bruised and with some painkiller in his body.

“It was my fourth lap and I lost the front end at the first touch of the brakes. It was in turn seven, which is third [gear] and with the limiter on cut. I got to the gravel very quickly. I have pain in my ribs and the neck very stiff”, the #36 abounded.

This Friday was the first day of activity on the track for the Suzuki riders, after knowing that this will be the brand’s last season in MotoGP. For anyone, putting on the suit, the helmet and going out to get more than 300 kilometers per hour, it would not be easy at all. Nor for Mir and Alex Rins, who, however, have no choice but to find the formula to abstract themselves from everything that surrounds that goodbye of the Hamamatsu builder.

“During the year there are already Grand Prix where you have problems of some kind; be it personal or professional. We are going through a difficult time right now, but you have to know how to separate things and put them aside. It is also part of our job. The atmosphere in the box is the same as before the news. When we work we are the same”, added the boy from Palma, who was half a second behind Enea Bastianini, the fastest of all at Le Mans at the moment.
