Since Suzuki announced that it is leaving the World Championship at the beginning of May, the riders from the Hamamtsu structure have competed in three races, resulting in five crashes (three for Alex Rins) and, finally, fourth place for Joan Mir this Sunday in the Catalunya Grand Prix, a good result that has calmed the nerves within the team a bit.
This Monday, at the official MotoGP test held in Montmeló, Mir completed 72 laps in which he was able to test some new features on his GSX-RR.
“The priority in this test was to understand and improve the area that I am suffering the most, which is corner entry. We are in a direction that I am quite happy with, we have improved that issue. Suzuki has brought some fairings, an issue that was pending for improve the bike and I’m also happy, the bike works better and there’s less wheelie, it positively affects the bike’s turning”.
That Suzuki, despite having announced that it will not continue next year, continues to work and bring new parts satisfies the 2020 champion.
“Yes, I’m happy, but it doesn’t surprise me, they said they would continue working this year to finish the season one hundred percent, and they’re showing it.”
A very good race was held on Sunday, a result that has given peace of mind within the team, where the first nerves and discussions had appeared after the two double zeros at Le Mans and Mugello.
“When everything goes well everything is easier, but when there are problems there are more discussions and more tension. Good results always calm everyone down and give peace of mind. It’s not a matter of pointing out who is to blame for anything, you have to work all together to solve the problems”.
At one point, after the Mugello race, Mir ‘s level of concentration was called into question, and Motorsport.com asked him if that made him feel bad.
“I don’t know if my concentration has been questioned, or anything like that. I insist, when there are problems you don’t have to target people, you have to target the problem and work together. It is clear that this situation is difficult for everyone and we are more sensitive, but we must continue working as we have done up to now”, concluded the Spaniard.
