The modernist art and architecture of Barcelona is one of the main attractions of the city. Although the term is generally translated into English as ‘Modernism’ or ‘Modernist’, Modernism is slightly different and is uniquely Catalan, which means that what you see here in the capital of Catalonia is something you won’t find anywhere else.
If you are interested in learning more about modernism in Barcelona, take a look at this walking tour of modernism in Barcelona. On this page you will find a more extensive list of modernist architecture in Barcelona.
The Holy Family
Gaudí’s most famous work in Barcelona, the unfinished basilica of La Sagrada Familia, is probably the most famous building in Barcelona. An obvious number one for this list of architecture in Barcelona, not everyone likes it, but everyone has to see it.

Hospital de Sant Pau
The Hospital de Sant Pau is a fully functioning hospital, with ambulant nurses and injured, but it is also one of the most beautiful places in Barcelona. Built by the modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, the Hospital de Sant Pau is so close to La Sagrada Familia that you have no excuse to get lost.

Park Güell
Another project that Antoni Gaudí left unfinished, Park Güell was conceived as a residential area for the rich and famous of Barcelona, until the new (at that time) Eixample district usurped its plans.
Although the Catalans call it Parc Güell and the Spanish call it Park Güell, Gaudí always intended for ‘park’ to be spelled in English.

Palau de La Musica Catalana
The Palau de Musica Catalana is a concert hall designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Unfortunately, the front facade is now covered in glass, but step aside and see the nice details at ground level, like the mosaic locker.

Casa León Morera (Island of Discord)
Casa Lleó Morera is one of the three buildings that make up the Illa de la Discordia or ‘Block of Discord’. This was designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner.
