One hundred and fifty-one years ago, Alice visited Wonderland to discover that there was a world upside down. Well, something similar to what she felt we have felt when we met the Modobag: apparently, now when you go on a trip it will no longer be you who has to carry the suitcase, but your luggage will be the one who will carry you .
This new invention is a fun means of transport destined to change the way of traveling of those enthusiastic travelers of technology. At first glance, it looks like a completely normal wheeled carry-on bag, but we can actually get on it and drive it, almost like a miniscooter .
It houses a 150-watt electric motor and lithium batteries that are fully recharged in one hour – it can be plugged into any electrical outlet and has a capacity for more than 4,000 recharge cycles – and has a range of about 10 kilometers –Calculation made for an 82 kg passenger–.
At what maximum speed can you ride up in your Modobag? It is probably not the type of transport that Marc Márquez would choose, but it reaches 12.8 km / h – which will allow you to move three times faster than if you were walking.
In terms of size, it is similar to that of a carry-on suitcase (its dimensions are 22 × 56 × 35 cm), so in many airlines, approximately 80% -according to its creators-, you can take it with you on the plane , without the need to invoice it . That makes it perfect for a weekend getaway or for those belongings that we want to carry with us at all times.
And, even if we bill it, it has a GPS that allows us to have it located through a mobile application. It also has two USB ports for charging individually or simultaneously: it is compatible with electronic devices such as smartphones or tablets.
The project has carried out a campaign on Indiegogo, one of the best-known crowdfunding platforms, and, after raising the money they needed to start it – in fact, they have tripled it – they will carry out the first shipments in January 2017. The price is 995 dollars ( about 897 euros ).
Can you imagine the Modobag races that could be organized in airports around the world? If you watch this video, you can get an idea:
