The Honda rider reappeared at the Aragón Grand Prix on October 18, after almost four months off as a result of his fourth operation on his right arm. After not being able to finish the first lap of the race at Motorland, Marc Márquez completed the races in Japan (4th) and Thailand (5th) staying just on the verge of the podium and wanting to fight, for the first time this season, for a position in the drawer.
Márquez has not been on the podium since his victory at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix , on October 24, 2021, almost a year ago, and he now has three opportunities to do so, the first of them this weekend at the Grand Prix of Australia , which after two years off the calendar due to the pandemic, will once again host the MotoGP World Championship.
“Phillip Island is a great circuit to race on, unlike almost any other track on the calendar,” admits the Honda rider, who has stood on the Phillip Island podium six times, with a 125cc win, second and third place. in Moto2 and three victories in MotoGP .
“I have had many memorable races there and there are almost always beautiful battles, especially in the first few laps,” recalls the Catalan.
After the Buriram weekend, in which the race had to be held in wet conditions, Márquez warns of the climatic risks that Phillip Island entails.
“You have to be very careful there with the weather, especially this year it looks like it can be very cold and very windy, and that’s something we have to pay attention to.”
After almost four months out, Márquez’s reappearance was with a triplet, an overexertion that, apparently, has not taken its toll on the runner.
“Again, we have to see what is possible this weekend, I have continued training and I feel that my condition improves every day,” he reassures.
