MotoGP – Márquez: “Every time I stick my head out ahead”

Silverstone.- In Spielberg, in the second of the consecutive events that took place at the Red Bull Ring, the Honda rider surprised twice. Firstly, for being able to keep up with the pace of the leading group for more than three quarters of the race. And then, for crashing as soon as he changed bikes, on a wet track, in those conditions in which he usually makes the difference.

Given that nothing is at stake in terms of the championship, Márquez was very satisfied with the sensations he got from those more than 20 laps, and with that plan he faces the British Grand Prix that started this Thursday at Silverstone.

Despite the two races he missed before reappearing in Portimão, the Spaniard is the best positioned Honda rider in the general table, in which he appears eleventh, with 59 points , four more than Takaaki Nakagami, and 18 more than Alex Marquez and Pol Espargaro.

“The most important thing is that every time I stick my head out more among the riders who roll in front. That is the objective that I have set for myself for the second half of the season”, agreed Márquez , who arrives at this circuit like the rest of his rivals, without the experience of 2020 – the pandemic prevented the celebration of the grand prize.

“Silverstone is one of the tough circuits on the calendar. If I go a bit by what happened in Austria, in theory we shouldn’t opt for victory, but we don’t want to rule anything out”, added the man from Cervera (Lleida), who, despite going through a delicate moment, highlights that both he, physically, like his bike, on a technical level, take steps in the right direction.

“I am getting better and the bike, too. We are taking steps forward. That means that in circuits like Austria, where we had to have a hard time, we could perform at a good level”, continued the multi-champion, who, now more than ever, follows the guidelines he receives from the HRC engineers, in his almost crusade for optimize the RC213V .

“Now we are at a point where Honda has to decide what to test and what not. Here we will start with the base of the bike from the second race in Austria and Assen, and I hope not to get too dizzy”, stressed Márquez.
