MotoGP – Márquez: "I couldn't ride at the level to understand things"

The Honda rider completed the 25 laps of the Spanish Grand Prix race at Jerez, crossing the finish line this Sunday in 9th place, just over 10 seconds behind the winner, Jack Miller .

Márquez had to endure during the test the pain in the cervical area as a result of a very strong impact after falling on Saturday in training, and to do it again on Sunday in the warm up.

However, given the importance of this Monday’s test, especially for Honda, which has not quite found the key to this year’s bike, Márquez explained that he was going to try to go out on the track and complete about 40 laps.

In the end, Márquez was only able to turn the track seven times and fold sails due to the strong muscular overload he suffered in the area of his neck, shoulder and right arm.

“I have tried to do the test, but just getting out of bed in the morning I have already seen that the entire right side was very blocked, starting with the cervical and the shoulder”, said Marc before leaving Jerez .

Marquez admitted that Sunday’s race took a toll on him physically.

“During a weekend you can hold on more or less, but in the race, with so many laps in a row, it costs a lot more and the arm doesn’t work well, and that causes the cervical and shoulder to lock up”.

The intention of the Honda rider was to test the new chassis that Takaaki Nakagami is already using and new parts to improve the bike.

“I tried, I wanted to do a few laps to test the priority, the most important thing, but it couldn’t be, I saw that I couldn’t drive at an acceptable level to understand things, so I stopped”, he admitted.

“It was a shame, but we are left with the feeling of the weekend, which was better than in Portimao . It is the situation we have now, so we have to be patient, a little more, I feel better every time and let’s see if at Le Mans we can take another step in terms of confidence and sensations with the bike”, settled the rider from Cervera .
