Miller acknowledged having had a very bad time at the start of the season due to the criticism received due to his lack of performance, but after premiering his record of victories a fortnight ago in Jerez, the Australian did it again this weekend, winning the Grand Prix de France in a flag to flag race and after having to serve a double long lap penalty.
The Ducati rider takes advantage of the sweet moment he is experiencing now and that has allowed him to climb to fourth position in the World Championship, 16 points behind the leader Fabio Quartararo , to vindicate himself.
“So far it seems that the Ducati is the strongest bike on all circuits and in all conditions. They may not have the strongest rider, but I hope to stay on the same line and grow from appointment to appointment”, the Andorra-based runner released sarcastically.
Before imposing a hellish pace in the rain that led him to dominate the race, Miller had to go through the change of bike due to the rain and a double long lap .
“I got to the pit lane to change bikes and the wind was knocking down the fences, it almost knocked me off the bike, I saw Alex Rins fall and I loosened up a bit. It has been incredible, I feel very lucky that on a day like this I can be here and have won the race, because everything could have changed with the double long lap and with everything that has happened”, he explained.
A double pass penalty for the long lap that the Australian was not very clear about.
“Well, I didn’t know the reason very well at the time, I didn’t want to believe it, but I couldn’t escape it. In the end they told me it was due to speeding in the pit lane. It’s normal, it seems that I get fined a lot for that here at Le Mans,” he added.
After changing bikes, Miller quickly moved into the lead group and crashes by Marc Márquez and Alex Rins allowed him to move into second, quickly cutting ground on Quartararo.
“I saw that he had a little more pace than Fabio and I decided to pass him, stay in front and push hard. The last laps were very fast, I saw that Zarco was approaching but I waited until the end to change the map, because I had to drive very carefully with the dry track and the wet settings . I waited four laps from the end because I knew he had pushed the tires a lot on the comeback, and I knew I had a bit more. I made the map change and the rest is history,” he said.
Despite the multiple falls, in the end the Australian showed that, in the race, he was the strongest.
“ Viñales had a lot of rhythm in the dry, he pushed very hard at the beginning, but today was not his day, I feel sorry for him. Congratulations to Zarco and Quartararo, who have driven very well. Fabio is not fantastic normally in these conditions, but at the beginning of the race he pushed very hard, I congratulate him”.
Third win for Miller in MotoGP, second in a row, something not achieved by an Australian since Casey Stoner in 2012.
“Wow! A long time ago, it was my debut in the World Cup… it tastes fantastic to me, I feel that I am very lucky to be in this position and I will continue working to maintain this same line until the end of the season”, settled the man from Townsville .
