Fridays in Losail are from Jack Miller. The Australian set the fastest time in the first free practice sessions of the Doha Grand Prix, once again beating his teammate Pecco Bagnaia, while Johann Zarco (third) and Jorge Martín (fifth) completed the festival on the Ducati .
However, little seems to matter where the Desmosedici start from. Seeing the start of the last Qatar GP, where the four GP21s arrived in the lead at the first corner and Martín climbed 10 positions, everything indicates that they will once again lead the pack this Sunday in the early stages.
The tremendous acceleration of the Ducati takes away some of the importance of pole position, where they are among the favorites after Bagnaia won the first of the year and what was seen this Friday in free practice.
“We did well with the Ducati, so it’s not overly important, but it’s more a matter of pride,” says Miller. You want to try and get the best lap time, it’s half the fun of the weekend. Surely it is one of the key things. We will see what we can do, we will try to use the momentum of today for tomorrow and Sunday.”
In addition to the best time, Miller got the scare of the day when his bike almost knocked him off his feet.
“I’m fine, I don’t have anything at the moment. It’s one of those things when you’re pushing. Better a scare than a fall. Everyone asked me if I hit myself, but I didn’t. The family jewels are safe and sound,” he joked .
The Aussie was one of the disappointments in the first race of the year, where he did not get past ninth place due to a problem with the rear tire.
“The grip feels a little different from what we had in the last grand prix. My driving was a little more similar to what I was doing during the test and with the same brake pressure. Last week I couldn’t,” he said.
