The 2020 world champion was putting together one of the strongest weekends of the season until he got to qualifying for the San Marino Grand Prix, where he struggled and could only get 11th time, so he will start from fourth. starting grid row. An uncomfortable position on a circuit where it is not easy to overtake.
“It has been a positive day and everything was going very well until Q2, where nothing went well. In the first stint I had problems with the pressure in the front tire and the steering would lock up. I’ve had two big scares and I’ve decided to stop. When they fitted me with another tire, the bike’s display showed me ‘box’. Normally that is usually sent to me, it is like an alarm, so I stopped again and they told me to continue. I understood that it was a mistake and that has conditioned us throughout Q2”, explained Mir annoyed.
“Starting so far back everything is complicated for us, but I’m going to try, I think I’m one of the few who starts 11th and can have a good race”, he assured.
Regarding the team’s failure to pit him back for a mistake in the middle of Q2 , the driver had a conversation with the bosses.
“Yes, we have talked about everything. Whenever things like this happen, you have to understand. Suzuki has apologized to me. It was a mistake inside the box. These things happen. It’s important to talk about it and understand it so it doesn’t happen again.”
“It’s a move I appreciate from Suzuki. You have to know when to apologize and I know they are going to work hard so that it doesn’t happen again,” he insisted.
“This kind of thing can happen to all of us. Tomorrow I will try to turn the issue around and have a good race because the team deserves it”, the Spaniard sweetened the situation.
In his first outing on the track, Marc Márquez once again chose the Spaniard to continue on the track, which is known in slang as ‘wheel sucker’.
“About Marc, he always, well all the drivers know what Marc needs, right? I think you always need a wheel to be strong. I don’t know, it’s something that makes it hard for me to understand how an eight-time world champion can’t do his job alone and all this, and he always needs some wheel. But yeah, it’s the game Marc always loves to play and that’s it. Today it was me, so I tried to do my job. I don’t care if I have someone behind. I try to give my 100%, fight and work for the race”, released the champion.
With options still to renew the title, albeit getting smaller, Mir does not lose his focus.
“I think that in Aragón I started to feel good with the bike and I can have a very solid end to the season. The issue is that the first three in the general classification have been very fast this weekend. I only needed to finish off in Q2. I’m going to try to be with them in the race, it’s difficult. Pecco [Bagnaia] is going very fast, but I will try to get my weapons out too”, settled the Suzuki rider.
