The MotoGP world champion was satisfied this afternoon with the work carried out by Suzuki in bringing news to its riders for the official test that will be held in Misano from yesterday until this Wednesday afternoon.
In addition to a new engine, which is being tested with a view to next year’s bike, Joan Mir was able to mount a new chassis, highlighting the virtue of allowing him to brake a little better, a handicap he had been suffering from throughout the season.
“I am happy with how this test went, because I see that there are things that we have been able to improve. The engine may be a little better next year, it has more power, it is something that will help us and that we need”, said Mir .
“We have worked with a new chassis today and we have been faster, especially when stopping the bike. You have to put it all together, but I’m very satisfied,” he added.
In addition to working for 2022, the Misano test can also help Mir to improve the bike for the rest of the year with the aim of fighting for the runner-up position.
“The chassis is one of the things that could be used this year, so things have been brought to improve until the end of the season”, he introduced.
“The new piece has good things, but others that don’t go so well. We are going to work this afternoon to understand it and maybe work on the geometry of the bike, which may have to change to adapt to the new chassis.”
Another job that Suzuki is involved in is improving the prototype of the rear height adjustment device of the motorcycle, released in Austria and which has not just pleased the brand’s riders.
“The final device has not yet arrived. When it arrives with less weight we will notice it a lot, but we have seen the direction in which it is working and I think it is the right one”.
Suzuki’s big Achilles’ heel is undoubtedly Saturday’s fastest qualifying lap, an area where the new engine can bring benefit.
“The big difference in the engine for Saturdays is that when we put all the cavalry, if with the new engine of 2022 we can have some margin to improve two tenths, that can allow us to be in second or even in the first row of grill. If the engine can help us gain that margin, of course it will help us in Q2. On the other hand, if there is more power there will also be more consumption and in the most demanding circuits in that aspect we will suffer a little more, but it will help us on Saturday in qualifying”, settled the Spaniard.
Alex Rins satisfied with rear device
Mir’s team-mate Alex Rins was equally pleased with the work Suzuki had done so far in the test.
“The two days of work are going very well, they are important days. Suzuki has brought many little things, including a candidate engine to be the definitive one for 2022 and that meets the expectations we asked for. I think we are going to take a step forward. I still have to try a different chassis that Joan is riding”, a test that Rins had planned for this Wednesday afternoon.
Regarding improving on Saturdays in classification, the Catalan did not want to advance a forecast.
“The question of whether on Saturdays we will be faster over one lap I am not able to answer. We have not tested the new engine with soft rubber behind. We have focused more on the pace and tire wear, but we are happy”.
When it comes to improvements to the holeshot , the rear height adjustment device, Rins was optimistic.
“The holeshot now has a small evolution that I liked a lot and Joan liked it a lot yesterday. We have done two small race drills with and without the device and now we have to analyze the data, but I think that with this device we are where we wanted to be”, settled the Barcelonan.
