MotoGP: Mir will not have his track engineer in Portimao

Joan Mir will have a notable loss in his box this weekend. Frankie Carchedi , track engineer of the world champion, has not been able to travel to the Portimao Circuit after testing positive in the test prior to traveling and will remain isolated at his home in Andorra .

The rest of the members of the Suzuki team have tested negative in the PCR tests and they will be present this weekend in Portugal.

Carchedi’s loss in the #36 garage this weekend will be covered by Tom O’Kane , who currently works as track engineer for Sylvain Guintoli on the Suzuki test team.

The Irish engineer has extensive knowledge and experience in the world of racing and has been a fundamental pillar for Suzuki since the brand’s return to MotoGP. He previously worked with Aleix Espargaró during his time with the Hamamatsu team.

Carchedi will undergo further tests ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez in two weeks.

At the Qatar Grand Prix, both Maverick Viñales and Alex Márquez had to complete Friday practice without their crew chiefs as both tested false negative for COVID-19.

However, both Esteban García and Christophe Bourguignon rejoined before qualifying.
