MotoGP – Mir: “With new tires; the others go down second and a half”

The Spaniard is not the first to complain about the lack of consistency between one set of tires and another, which in theory should offer the same performance.

Nor is it new that there are riders who point to this lack of regularity as the main weak point of Michelin , the only tire supplier in the event.

The fact is that the current champion was left this Friday out of the positions that give provisional access to the second round of qualifying (Q2), after finishing the second test of the day, in Jerez, 13th, eight tenths of Pecco Bagnaia, the fastest.

Already in the morning, the Spaniard did not have a placid debut on the Andalusian track, due to a problem with the electronics that controls the anti-horsepower system that left him more time than desired in the workshop.

In the afternoon, when he fitted his bike with a set of new tires to launch an attack on a fast lap, the Suzuki rider was unable to take advantage of those tyres.

“First we had some small electronic problems with the bike, and then with the new tires, which didn’t give me any grip. So, being in the top ten, which theoretically should have been something simple, is now complicated”, explained Mir , who preferred to bite his tongue to make a public complaint.

“The rubber thing is frustrating. This is not the first time this has happened to us this year. It is a difficult thing to manage. It is not normal that, when placing the new game, I lowered four tenths and the others, a second and a half. I no longer ask to improve that second more than the others do. But it is that four tenths more would have placed me among the first five”, related the #36 .

“It happens to me at least once in every grand prix. Unfortunately, this situation repeats itself many times in my case. We will talk to the people with whom we have to talk”, added the man from Palma de Mallorca, aware of the equality that exists and the burden that it would surely mean not being able to get between the first two rows of the grid on Sunday.

“Obviously it helps to get ahead here, which is a track that everyone knows a lot about. Anyway, our rhythm is good”, concluded Mir.
