MotoGP – Nakagami still out and will be replaced in Australia

Takaaki Nakagami went down after making contact with Marc Márquez in the first lap of the Aragón Grand Prix MotoGP race, held on September 18. The next day in the morning, in Barcelona, he underwent surgery on two fingers on his right hand and, in the afternoon, he traveled to Japan, his country. There he kept a busy schedule of events and completed the grand prize, but not before leaving really painful images in each session when putting on and taking off the gloves. Nakagami finished the race last and after consulting with a specialist, the decision was made to undergo surgery again to perform a skin graft and help close the wounds on his 4th and 5th fingers, the following Friday, September 23, precisely when the Thai Grand Prix was starting, an event in which he did not take part.

After a week without competition, the reappearance of the Japanese rider was expected this weekend in Australia, but this Monday LCR-Honda announced on their social networks that Nakagamki will continue to be out for another week and will not travel to Phillip Island.

“After the Japanese GP I had another operation on my fingers and they are getting better, but I still have a bit of trouble picking up some objects,” Nakagami explained in a team statement.

“I feel good, I don’t feel any pain, but the doctor has recommended that I rest for at least two more weeks, which means that I will miss the Australian GP. Next Monday I have another medical to remove the stitches and then we will decide if I can race in Malaysia. In the meantime, I wish Nagashima san and my team all the best at Phillip Island.”

As was the case in Thailand, his compatriot Tetsuta Nagashima (30 years old) will take over from Taka at the handlebars of the RC213V of the Honda satellite team, for this rider his third consecutive grand prix in the premier class, in which he made his debut in the Japan race as HRC wild card.

In the race held in Motegi , Nagashima crashed 15 laps from the end, while in Buriram , in a test declared wet and in complicated conditions, the Kanagawa man managed to cross the finish line 22nd, 51 seconds behind the winner, Miguel Oliveira, and ahead of Luca Marini, who fell, he managed to pick up the bike and finish two laps behind the Portuguese.

In the Australian weekend, what is expected is the reappearance of the 2020 world champion, Joan Mir, who after missing the races in Aragon (he left after FP3), Japan and Thailand, has announced that he will get back on the the blue GSX-RR this Friday at Phillip Island .
