MotoGP – Oliveira: "At KTM we needed this podium"

After a spectacular 2020 season, KTM was not giving the same sensations this year in the first part of the season, until this Sunday Miguel Oliveira completed an impeccable race to finish second.

Once in the parc fermé, the stewards sanctioned the Portuguese with one position for exceeding the limits of the track, giving Joan Mir second place and relegating Oliveira to third place.

After a review, it was seen that Mir had also stepped out and the initial podium was recomposed, with Oliveira second and Mir, third.

“I needed the podium, so much so that when I got to the Parc Fermé they told me I was third and I didn’t even get mad, although everything has gone back to its place afterwards. On another more normal day it would have bothered me a lot, but in the end I finished second. At KTM we needed this podium, we had been fighting to improve in races and achieving it on such a difficult circuit has been very good for us”, explained Miguel.

KTM’s improvement has been accompanied by a new chassis premiered at Le Mans , as well as a new improved fuel.

“Here every little detail that can help you is key. Between the new chassis and now with the new gasoline, they are very small details but they help you. We haven’t touched the bike much since Friday. We have chosen the lines well and although I have been discreet all weekend, I have always been there”, he recalled.

Lastly, Oliveira spoke of the sadly deceased Jason Dupasquier .

“He was just a young man , 19 years old . I feel very bad for the family, for the parents. I don’t want to imagine the pain they feel right now. This is a sport that we love very much, it is our passion, but it is very cruel. You have to keep going and when you put on your helmet you concentrate and try to give your best”, concluded Oliveira after his third podium finish in MotoGP, the first that did not end in victory.
