Although all indications point to the Ducati being the clear favorites this Sunday at the Italian Grand Prix, the truth is that Yamaha has historically won many victories on this track under the guidance of Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo , and that Fabio Quartararo , Starting from pole, he will try to carry on that tradition.
The numbers say that Quartararo was fast on the dry lap and also in FP3 and FP4, showing a pace that puts him in the battle for victory.
“I don’t know if I am the strongest driver, but we are there, we have a good pace. Above all I feel good, I haven’t gone ultra to the limit and we know that qualifying is one of my favorite things and I’m very good at it. It’s a good day for us, but a little sad for Dupasquier , I dedicate pole position to him”, said the Frenchman.
Despite Ducati ‘s potential on the straight, El Diablo believes that there are places on the circuit where they can defend themselves well.
“In all sectors of the track we are doing well except in the last one, in the change of direction the bike no longer works. In sector 1 and 3 we are quite good, we will only try to make a good start and try to be with those in front”, he argued.
For this weekend, Yamaha debuts the starting device at the front of the bike, which they did not have until now, unlike Ducati.
“I am going to use the new devices because it is a track where they can be used. I still don’t have the perfect feeling , I’m not very comfortable, but to make a good start we have to use it and in the race we will surely find the sensations more easily”, as it is a holeshot that can also be used during the lap.
Despite this, Fabio is aware that in a start as long as Mugello , Ducati will have an advantage.
“Standing up to Ducati at the start are big words. They have a lot of experience. We don’t do so many outings to rehearse it, we don’t use the full potential of the device. Surely we will learn more and more to use it and take advantage of its potential”, settled.
