El Diablo , who a few days ago had surgery on his forearm that ruined his race two weeks ago in Jerez, pulled a dizzying last lap out of his hat that allowed him to beat Maverick Viñales , by less than a tenth, certified the first one-two for the official Yamaha team on the grid since Mugello 2017.
Jack Miller will close the front row of the grid after dominating much of the session, while Franco Morbidelli (fourth) will open the second. The Petronas team driver recovered well from the sprained left knee he suffered at the end of morning practice, and was one of the riders who most often poked his head through the top of the screens.
Next to Morbidelli will be Johann Zarco (fifth) and Marc Márquez (sixth), who had pole position with a minute and a half to go.
Takaaki Nakagami (seventh), Pol Espargaró (eighth) and Valentino Rossi (ninth) will form the third row, while Miguel Oliveira closed a top ten from which two unexpected guests were left out: Lorenzo Savadori (eleventh) and Luca Marini (12th), the two who promoted from the first screen (Q1).
Some of the theoretical favorites remained there, such as the current champion, Joan Mir , who should start 14th, or Pecco Bagnaia , the leader of the general classification, who will start 16th.
