The world championship for series-derived motorcycles starts next weekend at Motorland Aragón and Tito Rabat will make his WorldSBK debut there with the Barni Racing Ducati team.
The Barcelona rider has replaced the injured Jorge Martín in the Pramac Ducati MotoGP team due to the injury of the young rookie in Portimao, racing in Jerez and this weekend in Le Mans.
Martín’s recovery continues, but right now it is not at all clear that he can reappear at the Italian Grand Prix in two weeks.
This Saturday, Motorsport.com asked Rabat what his priority would be if Martin is ultimately unable to race in Italy, as the MotoGP Grand Prix coincides with the WorldSBK event in Estoril on the last weekend of May.
“I don’t know, the truth is that I don’t know,” Tito replied when they suggested that he give himself that possibility.
“From Monday I am going to focus on SBK, I will go home to see if I can train one day with the bike. I am going to focus on my new team and racing in general. Whenever I go to a circuit I will give 200 percent”, said Rabat.
With the possibility of Martin’s loss, Rabat did not rule out continuing to supply the man from Madrid.
“ Mugello coincides with a SBK race for me, but hey”, Tito added with a shrug. “The normal thing is that I go to the Estoril race.”
“I don’t know what I’ll do, let’s see if they tell me to race at Mugello, or not, before making any decision,” settled the 2017 Moto2 world champion, who will start 20th at Le Mans.
