MotoGP – Viñales: "I have regained confidence with the front end"

The Yamaha rider won the first race of the season in Qatar , showing himself to be extremely competitive. However, as the races have progressed Maverick Viñales was losing confidence.

After the Jerez test, two weeks ago, in which he did more than 100 laps and finished with the best time, Viñales claims to have regained his confidence and sensations on the Yamaha.

This Friday, however, he suffered a crash, his first of the year, in the final part of FP1, which prevented him from being fast in wet conditions.

“It wasn’t difficult in the rain, but I couldn’t do the last few laps (because of the crash). I think I would have finished in the top three with the medium tire front and rear. I liked the bike in wet conditions, last year we did well. I think we can have a good rhythm, it’s been several weekends since I felt like today”, he introduced.

“I have recovered a lot of sensations, we can still improve the electronics a lot, we have done a low 1:32, which is not easy here at the pace level, so I am very happy”, he insisted.

Viñales further refined the points in which he had improved.

“Especially when braking, which is where I lost the most, I couldn’t stop the bike. After the Jerez test we have recovered it and this is very good. I’m happy because I’ve regained confidence with the front end because that point is very important for our bike”.

Despite being satisfied, Maverick does not lose sight of the potential of Johann Zarco on this track.

“Zarco has always been very fast here, especially with big bikes, but we are at a great level. We have to focus on ourselves and make the most of our potential, like we did in Qatar.”

“The track is delicate. Turn 3 is difficult and with the wind today it is very easy to make a mistake. You had to be very careful”, settled the man from Roses.
