The French Pramac-Ducati rider had been complaining of problems in his right arm since the end of the summer break, at the beginning of August with the double in Austria , and the doctors detected a clear case of compartment syndrome.
After going out on track on Tuesday on the first day of the official MotoGP test held in Misano, the Frenchman traveled to France to undergo surgery.
Zarco already announced during the San Marino GP weekend that he was going to undergo surgery, bringing forward an operation that he initially planned for after Austin, or for the end of the season.
However, the physical demands that the Ducati demands in order to reach the last tenths of its speed in curves have advised Zarco to try to solve his problems as soon as possible, since since the Catalan Grand Prix in June, the performance of Johann have been alarmingly diminished.
The runner has put himself in the hands of Dr. Olivier Dufour , in Aix-en-Provence, the same doctor who already operated on Fabio Quartararo for this same syndrome at the beginning of the season.
“I had a good feeling about Doctor Dufour, who has already operated on Fabio and who has a lot of experience in this regard,” said the pilot, who visited the aforementioned doctor after the Aragón Grand Prix . “I was able to take time to confirm the diagnosis compartment syndrome in the right arm. Hence, I made the decision to take the opportunity to do it as soon as I could.”
“Johann Zarco has undergone successful surgery,” reported Pramac Racing on Wednesday, assuring that the pilot “should be fully recovered” with a view to the Grand Prix of the Americas, in Austin, from October 1 to 3.
The one from Cannes is one of the few riders on the current MotoGP grid who had not undergone surgery for compartment syndrome. Moreover, the Frenchman had only undergone surgery once, last year to remedy a scaphoid injury resulting from the violent impact with Franco Morbidelli at the Austrian Grand Prix. The #5 reappeared two days later in that same circuit.
