Nakagami: "Ogura is on the list to move up to MotoGP"

It was this week when HRC announced that the Japanese would stay with Lucio Cecchinello’s team for at least one more season, waiting to see what happens with Ai Ogura, the Idemitsu team rider, in Moto2, with whom he role was disputed that second Honda.

A few weeks ago, everything seemed ready for Ogura to take over from Nakagami, especially due to the inertia he had in the silver category of the championship: the Saitama runner occupies second place in the general table, with only four points less than Augusto Fernández, the Leader.

However, the configuration of next year’s grid played in favor of Nakagami if we take into account his statements this Thursday in Aragón, where he came to say that the five exercises he has been competing with the golden wing brand were the factor decisive for its continuity, given that both Joan Mir and Alex Rins do not know how the RC213V spends them.

“If I had left, only Marc would have experience with this bike, since the other two riders come from abroad. I think that is the main reason why he will be here. Now we have to decide in which direction we are going”, said Nakagami, who is 16th in the general table of the World Cup, with 14 points less than Marc Márquez, despite the fact that the one from Cervera (Lleida) has missed eight events. So far, the Chiba driver’s best result in 2022 is the seventh place he obtained in both Jerez and Le Mans.

“At least I have another year in MotoGP. I am very grateful for it,” added the #30, aware of the weight that Ogura has gained in recent days. “I don’t know what will happen in 2024. At the moment, Honda says that they have not decided what they will do, because it depends on the results of both sides [his and Ai Ogura’s]. If I am competitive, I may renew for another year. But everyone knows that Ogura is on the waiting list to go up to MotoGP. That’s the natural plan”, settled Taka, who is still waiting to be able to get on the podium for the first time in the premier class.
