Netflix and F1 confirm two more seasons of Drive to Survive

The filming of the fifth season has already begun this year, but the official confirmation of the new installment arrived on the Thursday before the Miami Grand Prix. Netflix and F1 announced that there will be another season in the next Drive to Survive campaign, which means that the audiovisual work will continue until at least 2024 .

“Formula 1 and Netflix can today confirm that the hugely popular series Formula 1: Drive to Survive has been renewed for a fifth and sixth season,” reads a statement from the Grand Circus. “The series has grown in popularity over time, with the fourth season drawing the largest viewership to date and entering the weekly Top 10 in 56 countries.”

“Offering unprecedented access, the new installment will once again take fans behind the scenes to witness first-hand how drivers and teams prepare to battle for the 2022 and 2023 championships,” he continued. “The series will offer never-before-seen footage and interviews from the biggest names in the sport.”

Drive to Survive has played a huge role in expanding F1 around the world, bringing awareness to the personalities of the drivers and the political battles that rage off the track.

Its influence in the United States has been especially notable, as it has contributed to the Great Circus having three races on home soil starting next year, when Las Vegas joins Miami and Austin.

The fourth season was launched in March, before the start of the new Formula 1 campaign, showing the fight for the championship between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. But the eventual world champion declined to be interviewed directly out of concern about creating fake drama, sparking talks between F1 and the show’s producers about his comments.

Thus, the fifth season of Drive to Survive will premiere in early 2023.
