Nicolas Cage wanted to play in "The Godfather"

With “The Godfather” trilogy, Francis Ford Coppola made film history. His nephew would have loved to have been part of this adventure.

Los Angeles – Hollywood star Nicolas Cage has tried in vain for his uncle Francis Ford Coppola for a role in “The Godfather III”.

“I said, ‘I really think I should be in your movie, uncle. I really think it would be a good idea if you would give me this role, ‘”said the 57-year-old in an interview with the industry magazine“ The Hollywood Reporter ”.

Cage (“Leaving Las Vegas”) said he would have loved to play Vincent Corleone, Sonny Corleone’s son. Coppola, screenwriter and director of the Mafia trilogy, had already chosen Andy Garcia for the role at the time. “It just wasn’t in,” said Cage. “That was a film that I wasn’t allowed to see, even though I really would have loved to be there.”

The last part of the saga was released in theaters in 1990. Andy Garcia was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his role as Vincent Corleone. dpa
