Oklahoma State Fair 2018

The Oklahoma State Fair has been a favorite annual event since 1907, just when Oklahoma was a newly emerging frontier land. With entertainment that most everyone can enjoy, from food and rides to events and performances, the 2018 Oklahoma State Fair will take place September 13-23.

The main doors open at 10 a.m. every day, but most carnival games won’t start until 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. on weekends.

Location and parking

The Oklahoma State Fair takes place in State Fair Park, just off Interstate 44, northeast of the intersection of Interstate 40 and Interstate 44 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the capital and largest city in the state. Oklahoma City is about 100 miles from Tulsa, Oklahoma; 150 miles from Wichita, Kansas; 190 miles from Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas; and 300 miles from Kansas City, Missouri.

Free parking is available for the Oklahoma State Fair, located north and south of State Fair Park. Handicap parking is also available just outside the main gates. Premium parking at 10th Street and May & Reno avenues can be purchased for $ 5 per vehicle per day when purchased in advance; otherwise premium parking is $ 10 in the lots. Seasonal parking passes are also available for purchase.

Tickets to enter

Tickets for the Oklahoma State Fair can be purchased online at the State Fair box office. Admission for adults is $ 12 while children ages 6-11 are $ 6. Children under 5 are free. Discounted tickets ($ 4 off for adults, $ 2 off per child) are available through September 12.

Season pass

If you plan to attend more than two days, then you will want to purchase a season pass. For $ 30, you can enter as often as you like. As with regular tickets, there is an advanced purchase discount for season passes. Buy before September 12 and a season pass is $ 25.

Entrance discount

There are a few ways to save on your fair entrance tickets:

  • Opening Day Discount (Sept. 13): Entrance to the door is $ 2 for everyone.
  • Military Monday (September 17): Military personnel and spouses get free entry with military ID. Other discounts include $ 3 JFK Exposition tickets and $ 3 Sky Wheel Wheel games.
  • $ 2 Dr. Pepper Tuesday (Sept. 18): $ 2 door entry, carnival games and more. No can of Dr. Pepper needed.
  • Wednesday of the third age (September 19) . All adults 55 and older get free admission with proof of age, $ 3 JFK Exposition tickets and $ 3 Sky Wheel Wheel games.

Travel coupons

Ticket prices are for admission only and do not cover events, attractions or entertainment. Those tickets must be purchased separately. Event tickets purchased before the fair opens often include door entry as well.

From the famous historic carousel to the dazzling Mega Drop, each ride typically requires between four and six coupons. As in previous years, there is a travel coupon sheet available for purchase, 30 tickets for $ 30 or 50 tickets for $ 55.

Additionally, wristbands can be purchased that provide unlimited access to rides. The bracelets are $ 35 during the week and $ 45 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. If you buy early, you can get a discount ($ 20 during the week and $ 30 during the weekend).

competitive events

Each year, the Oklahoma State Fair has competitive exhibits of cattle, horses, arts and crafts, and other creative arts. Additionally, the fair accepts entries in more than 30 cooking competition categories, from breads and cakes to meal challenges with grilled cheese sandwiches, breakfast, crock pots and more. Cash prizes are awarded and cooking contests are free. Detailed rules, schedule, and registration forms are available online.

Shows and Special Events

There are pageants for all ages and interests from the Miss Oklahoma State Fair pageant (and teen pageant), the parade band competition, the cheerleading competition, and the food vendor competition.

Check out special performances like the Disney on Ice show “Dare to Dream” and the Xtreme Bulls bull show. If you want a break from the action, sit back, relax, and enjoy jazz, blues, hip-hop, rock, country, and Christian band music, as well as ethnic and classical dance, soloists, choirs, theater, and magicians.

Other great shows for kids include the dog show, “Cubs of Penzance,” the “Pirate Magic” magic show, a one-ring family circus, pig racing, martial arts demonstrations and much more.
