Osceola Heritage Park y Silver Spurs Rodeo

Cattle ranches, cowboys, rodeos… it’s not what you generally think of in Florida, but these are all part of the history and culture of Osceola County. Today, these traditions are kept alive for tourists and visitors at Osceola Heritage Park.

Silver Spurs Rodeo / Spurs Arena

The Silver Spurs rodeo, today the largest east of the Mississippi, dates back to 1941 with the formation of the Silver Spurs Riding Club. Originally, the members organized a small informal rodeo just to enjoy their common interest in horseback riding. By 1950, the popularity of this event had grown so much that the club purchased land on Highway 192 and built the original Silver Spurs Rodeo Arena.

Over the years, this became a major attraction, drawing local residents and thousands of visitors to the annual mid-winter rodeo. The historic stadium served the area well, but in need of repair and modernization, it was demolished in 2002. What emerged in its place was the new multipurpose Silver Spurs Arena, a state-of-the-art facility with a capacity of 10,500 seats and 12 skyboxes in a heated environment. This new stadium, the cornerstone of the new Osceola Heritage Park, was designed to host not only rodeo events, but also concerts, sporting events, and more.

Osceola County Stadium

Another main attraction at Osceola Heritage Park is Osceola County Stadium. This is the location of choice for a variety of sporting events, from umpire schools to fantasy camps for adults, and it is the host of spring training for the Houston Astros.

The Osceola County Stadium is also home to the national headquarters of the United States Specialty Sports Association and the USSSA Hall of Fame and Sports Museum. The stadium also hosts more than 16 amateur athletic competitions throughout the year.

Other facilities

The University of Florida Extension Services Building, with more than 5,000 square feet, is available for seminars, small functions, banquets and dances.
