Alex Rins will not continue competing in the MotoGP German Grand Prix after finishing FP3 this Saturday completely exhausted and sore. The Suzuki man fractured a bone in his left wrist after being hit by Takaaki Nakagami in the first corner of the Catalunya Grand Prix race two weeks ago.
After conservative treatment without surgery, Rins arrived at Sachsenring confident that the rehabilitation and intensive care he underwent would take effect.
However, the Suzuki rider already struggled to do more than three or four laps in a row during FP1 and FP2 on Friday.
“When I finish FP3 we will decide if I continue or stop to prepare for the Assen race,” he said at the end of the day.
After completing 20 laps, more or less the same as most riders in FP3, although in short runs, the pain has broken Rins’ clear will to continue in the race, making the decision to get off the bike.
In an official note, Suzuki explained the decision made by the Spanish rider.
“After discussions with his team and Suzuki management, Alex Rins has made the decision not to participate in the remainder of the German GP weekend at the Sachsenring.
Although Dr. Xavier Mir , in Barcelona, and Dr. Ángel Charte , on the circuit, gave him the go-ahead to drive and he bravely participated in the FP1, FP2 and FP3 sessions, Alex felt more pain in his injured wrist than what i expected. To prevent the injury from getting worse, and so that it can reappear as soon as possible, he will not participate in training anymore.
Alex will now continue with the established recovery process following the broken pyramidal/triquetral bone, which includes electromagnetic therapy and a course of rest and anti-inflammatories, in the hope that he can be ready for next weekend’s Assen GP.” concludes the official statement.
Both the doctors and the Suzuki team manager, Livio Suppo , recommended that Rins stop and prepare for the race in the Netherlands, on a circuit that the Barcelonan is great at.
With this forced abandonment, Rins will add the fourth consecutive zero, after three falls and this injury, with which he will not have managed to finish a single race since Suzuki announced, at the beginning of May, that at the end of the season he will leave the MotoGP World Championship .
