Permafrost can be divided into two layers: pergelisol , which is the deepest, and molisole , the most superficial and which tends more easily to thaw. Most of the permafrost is found in Norway, Siberia, Tibet, Canada, Alaska, and some islands such as the South Georgia Islands, located in the southern Atlantic Ocean.
